Our Thankful Tree

Well, I couldn't wait to set up my new tree in the library.  It seemed a little early to decorate for Christmas so i made a "Thankful Tree."  Students were invited to make an ornament stating what they were thankful  for.  After Thanksgiving, we will make it a book themed tree.  Students are invited to decorate an ornament based on a book title or character.  I can't wait to see how it turns out!!

Hall of Heroes for Veterans Day

Students have been learning about the importance of honoring Veterans and those who currently serve in the military through Operation Gratitude and also with the compilation of our Hall of Heroes. Students and faculty have been very proud to share photos of their friends and family members who have served in the military. We have a very impressive display in our cafeteria.

Veterans Day - America's White Table

In Library class, 6th graders listened to the story America's White Table. This story explains the Veterans Day tradition of setting a table to honor the men and women who served in America's Armed Forces who did not come home, including the MIAs and POWs. Each item at the place setting symbolizes something, including the salt representing the tears of families waiting for loved ones to return. They set their own White Table, and also had the opportunity to see some of the medals my father-in-law earned as an Army Sergeant in World War II.
