Week of February 24 - Feb. 28

There were meetings going on in the library a couple of days this week, so I became a "traveling librarian." I took my show on the road and visited classrooms. We did some fun activities to fill the time since we were missing book checkout. Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett and Jon Klassen Extra Yarn tells the story of a girl named Annabelle who lives in a dreary town where the only colors you could see was the white of snow and the black of soot.  She knits sweaters for herself, her dog, her classmates, her family, and people in her neighborhood, but her ball of yarn never runs out.  So she knits things for inanimate objects such as houses and trees and birdhouses and mailboxes.  When an evil archduke finds out about Annabelle and her magic yarn, he offers her a large sum of money for it. When she refuses, he becomes furious and will do anything to get the yarn for himself.  It was a great story about kindness, good/evil, generosity, and making the world more beautiful.  We &

February Vacation week

Well, we are just finishing up school vacation, and the previous week I was out with the flu.  So here's some news I am catching up on.  I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful February vacation! Week of February 3 - February 7, 2020

This week was the Park Street Book Fair! It is so much fun seeing the joy on our students' faces when they find a book they love, and know that it is theirs to keep!  The fair was a big success, and I can't wait to use the credit we earned to purchase books! Thank you to Karen Antonetti and Alexis Landry for their help. And congratulations to the Jesensky family for winning the raffle for the Park Street Books gift certificate! TEACHER BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS I polled teachers to ask them what children's books they love and would like to recommend to our students.  I made a bulletin board with all the choices and also pulled some of the books to make the books easy for our students to find.  They are causing a buzz with the students so far! 2ND GRADERS BEGINNING CALDECOTT PROJECT 2nd graders are choosing their books to report on for the annual Caldecott book project.  I try to get them excited about the pro
